The Board of Trustees issued the call for applications in autumn 2006 and published it in the bulletins of HTE and OPAKFI, on the internet, and on the notice boards of educational institutions. The competition was open to graduates — primarily engineers and physicists — submitting a summary of their independent work, articles published in field-specific journals, or a new paper as the submitted work. Applicants could hold other degrees as well, but their activity had to fall within the field of acoustics.
The priority topic areas of the 2006 competition were: applications of numerical methods and modelling in vibration acoustics, and modern signal processing methods applied to acoustics.
In 2006, the Dénes Huszty Memorial Prize consisted of a memorial plaque and a cash prize of 200,000 HUF. The recipient could choose whether to receive the prize as cash or, in accordance with applicable law, as an in-kind benefit (e.g. conference participation fee, scientific publication fee, etc.).
One application was received by the stated deadline. The applications were assessed by Dr. András Illényi, Associate Professor, Chair of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, and the members of the Board.
The Board of Trustees decided to award one prize under the 2006 competition: in the amount of 200,000 HUF .
The Foundation has now awarded the competition prizes for the fifth time. The ceremonial prize-giving took place on 7 March 2007.
Péter Fiala submitted a paper summarising his research to date and the future international research directions expected in the field, under the title "Modelling soil–structure interaction in the high-frequency range relevant from an acoustic perspective". He also submitted an English-language article summarising the results he achieved over the past three years, which is due to appear in the journal Journal of Sound and Vibration in the course of 2007.
